Week 2 already!! I’m currently writing this blog at a coffee shop and I’m so happy. We haven’t gone off campus much, but when we have, the excitement is like we’re seeing the world for the first time. This week we’re able to get an uber off campus, so we’ve been using that for our advantage.
This week’s schedule looked similar to last week, with a few less sessions and additional events such as squad wars, scenarios, and evangelizing. Squad wars was so fun. We dressed up in all blue with face paint and props, and we were up against the three other squads. We competed in different games like dodge ball and relay races, with a dance, sung and choreographed by us, as the finale… and we won!
Now you may be wondering, what are scenarios? I’m so glad you asked. To prepare us for the mission field, the staff puts on simulations of what we may come across in other countries. Our first scenario was a house visit, which will be a big part of ministry overseas. We were split into small groups and sent to ‘houses’ to minister to ‘hosts’. The staff, role-playing as hosts, challenged us by presenting as being part of a religion we will encounter on the field, such as Buddhist and Muslim. This was very effective in learning to connect and form relationships cross-culturally, and to share the Gospel respectively and effectively.
Our second scenario was kids oriented, and our third scenario was a marketplace. The marketplace simulation was very well presented. Our goal was to buy dinner (leftovers from previous nights) with a limited amount of money for our team, lots of food options, noises, crowds, distractions, and cars… all under 15 minutes. My team managed to buy plenty of food, and also share the gospel with a ‘police officer’ under the time limit. I think we’re ready for the real world 💪🏼
This week we also officially evangelized! We were split up in groups of three or four with a leader, and we were dropped off in downtown Gainesville to talk to whoever the Lord led us too. My group shared the gospel with a college student, and I had the privilege of praying over her.
My praise for this week is that the weather has been beautiful! My prayer request is that the Lord would prepare my squad and I for North Carolina next week for our first mission/service opportunity.
Thank you for your prayers and for reading my blog!
Mo 😊
P.S. life lesson of the week is to not leave your phone on a car because it will drive away… that’s a story for another day 😅
