This week was so much fun!! We drove up to Black Mountain, North Carolina last Saturday, and we completed our first official ministry week. We stayed at the Adventures Relief base (with luxurious real beds !!), and we served by fixing up houses from hurricane Helene.

Our days consisted of devotions, breakfast, worship, ministry, lunch, more ministry, team time, dinner, and free time. Each team was assigned to a different house with a couple of leaders, and we served in various ways such as putting in insulation, tearing down kitchens, installing cabinets, gutting basements, and more. Once the job was complete, the team would move on to the next house.

For the first two and a half days, the house my team was assigned to did not actually have much work that needed to be done. After we installed a countertop, put on outlet covers, and completed a few random maintenance tasks, we used our extra time to go out and evangelize! Our second house was a lot more job oriented. The task was to tear out old insulation under a house and install new insulation with just a few feet of room between the ground and the floor. We got to wear these amazing marshmallow suits (see featured image), and I had a blast. Let’s just say I am now a professional handywoman 😁

To be honest, I was a little nervous going into this week and that I would not enjoy fixing up houses, but the Lord truly gave me so much joy. For example, one of the days it rained and we got to dance in the rain to worship music in our marshmallow suits. That same day, my team served dinner and we had everyone do a dance for their food. There was so much laughter, dancing, and joy that day and so many more heartwarming moments throughout this week.

My praise is that we had a great ministry week overall, and that the homeowners of the houses were touched by our service. My prayer request is that the Lord would continue to minister to them through other disaster relief missionaries, and that they would ultimately see Christ!

We’re back in Gainesville now for a week of debrief, and then we’re off to Medellín, Colombia!! Thank you, as always, for reading!

In Christ,

Mo 😊
